Does winter give you the blues? Maybe not literally, but do you seem to feel a little more sad during the winter months? If so, you’re not alone. Every winter, millions of Americans are affected by what is called Seasonal Affective Disorder.

Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD, is a type of depression that is triggered by the changing seasons. Symptoms of SAD are similar to other forms of depression, with symptom severity heightened when it’s the gloomiest outside.

If this is the case for you, there are treatments within reach. Experts agree that regular exercise, limiting sugar intake and getting a daily dose of sunshine help relieve SAD symptoms. What many don’t know is that you can also fight off SAD with a fork.

The same experts agree that Vitamins C, D and B (especially B12 and folate), along with magnesium and omega 3’s, will help battle SAD. And in addition to your daily multivitamin, you can make sure you’re getting enough of these vitamins through whole foods.
